Why it's tough to wake up early

Here's what usually happens when we try to rise early.

  1. You set alarm for 5 AM and go to sleep.
  2. Alarm rings at 5 AM, you wake up.
  3. You go back to sleep "for just 10 mins"
  4. You wake up 3 hours later at 8 AM!

The problem is at # 3. You go back to sleep because nobody holds you accountable. That's why we created the 5 AM Club. Here you are part of a group. If you are absent any day, you will feel a sense of shame in the group and that fear motivates you to attend regularly.

Benefits of waking up at 5 AM

"The early morning has gold in its mouth," said Benjamin Franklin. What he meant is that the waking up early brings us a wealth of benefits. Here are some of those golden reasons to wake up at 5 AM tomorrow.

  • Greater productivity

Not only do you get more hours for your work, you also work faster. Studies show that when you get up early, you are more energetic and takes lesser time to do a task than usual. He is also more adept in taking better decisions, planning and achieving goals.

  • More energy

More rest gives you more energy, plain and simple. When you get into the routine of rising early and retiring to bed early you are more likely to have a better sleeping pattern which leads to being more energetic throughout the day, helping you accomplish your goals and tasks in a faster and more productive manner.

  • Body System Reboot

Regular sleep is important for general health. A full night sleep helps to drop your blood pressure, helps your muscles to relax and repair, your breathing to slow and your body temperature to drop, but studies show that T-cells, which are the white blood cells that help to fight infection, tend to drop when you get a full night’s sleep. This is your immune system rebooting itself while you rest.

  • Healthier Eating

When you are rushed for time in the morning you don't have a healthy breakfast. You grab something something quick and easy on the go while you run out the door. Rising early gives you the time to prepare a sustainable breakfast that will set you up for the day. Recent research shows that late sleepers generally consume approximately 248 more calories than those who rise early. Also they tend to only eat half as much fruit and vegetables and twice as much fast food as their early riser counterparts.

  • More time to exercise

At the end of a hectic day, we are mentally and physically exhausted which makes it difficult to head to the gym or go out for a run. Early risers have the time and energy to to fit in a workout, before the day gets hectic. At the 5 AM club we start the day with a 15 minute pranayam including Kapaal-bhaati, Anulom vilom and Brahmri.

  • Healthy looking skin

People who get a full night's restful sleep tend to have good looking skin. This is because people who wake up early also tend to have regular sleeping habits which help to ensure that your skin gets the proper time to rejuvenate itself.
